Its quite possible that the files to be linked are diff ferent from the actual 'active" files that are being wor key on and hence need to be checked for reassembly For example assume vou have programmed standard routine to display a sprite that has been tested and optimised. Now every time you wrote .a program that used sprites you could use the preassembled and tested routine by just "linking in" rather than create whole new sprite routine.
